Vishala has completed PhD in ECE under the guidance of Prof. B. Yegnanarayana. Prior to joining PhD, she worked as a Research Assistant and was an MS Research Scholar at the same place during when she worked in developing speech based human-computer interactive systems for Indian languages, specifically Telugu and  in building asterisk based real-time communication applications. During this period she has also worked as teaching assistant at the institute. She holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad in 2008.

Her research interests include: speech based human-computer interactive systems, speech recognition, Speech signal processing, Representation of speech information, Speech features extraction, Voice activity detection (VAD), Spoofed speech detection, Speaker diarization, Speaker verification, Speech separation, Speaker separation, Keyword spotting, Distant speech detection, Mimicry speech detection, similarities in speech patterns, especially under practical degradations and real world scenarios etc.

During PhD, for five years, she was awarded Visvesvaraya PhD Scholarship, by Department Of Electronics & Information Technology(DeitY), Ministry of Communications and IT, Government of India.
